Public Works Crew Leader

1. Leads and participates in daily operations, monitors work progress of assigned staff and corrects issues as required.
2. Serves as the competent person on the job site as defined by OSHA.
3. Constructs and maintains storm drainage pipe and structures, sidewalks and roadways.
4. Performs building and grounds maintenance and repair to Town facilities, and grounds.  Repair and maintenance may include water and sewer services to Town Facilities.   
5. Performs various equipment and vehicle skilled maintenance and repair.
6. Responds to, investigates and documents customer issues, as assigned.
7. Prepares project and work order records and photo documentation of projects.
8. Recommends measures to improve production, equipment performance and quality of service provided.
9. Must be able to deal tactfully with staff and customers in tense situations.
10. Respond to emergency and disaster events.
11. May act as the Operations Manager in their absence.
12. Serves on rotation of on call duties as assigned.
13. Performs other duties as required.

1. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, kneeling, walking, standing, fingering, grasping, talking (expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words), hearing (perceiving nature of sounds by ear), and perform repetitive motions.
2. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
3. Must possess the visual acuity to perform repetitive and non-repetitive work, distinguish the work performed at an arm’s reach, and read diagrams and repair manuals.
4. Work is subject to extended periods of work in adverse environmental conditions.

1. High school diploma or equivalent and ability to effectively read and write.  
2. Should have 4-6 years’ experience in the trades’ field to include equipment operation, construction work and the like or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
3. Possession of an ITRE Road Scholar designation or similar certification of training and knowledge.  
4. NC DOT certified Flagger designation.   
5. Individual should have ability to read and understand as-built construction drawings or maps.
6. Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain within six months.
7. Valid Certified Work Zone Supervisor certification or ability to obtain within six months 
8. Valid NC Pesticide License for ROW or ability to obtain within six months.  

1. Considerable knowledge and operation of the tools and equipment used in the assigned work to include dump trucks, backhoe, front-end loader, tractors, knuckle-boom, excavators, leaf truck.  
2. Considerable knowledge of OSHA requirements for safety, work zone safety, lock out/tag out, confined and trenching and shoring techniques. 
3. Ability to establish traffic work zone as required by MUTCD standards.
4. Knowledgeable of typical roadway construction standards and roadway repair methods.
5. Knowledgeable of standard building and grounds maintenance techniques. 
6. Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions. 
7. Ability to supervise/direct other Public Works staff on departmental procedures and safety standards.  
8. Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and departments.  
9. Ability to work independently.

Salary : $41,516 - $62,273
