Job Summary
The Cultivation Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the cultivation department, including production planning, team management, plant health, compliance, and overall facility performance. This leadership role requires deep knowledge of cannabis cultivation, strong organizational and communication skills, and a clear understanding of California cannabis regulations. The Cultivation Manager works closely with facility leadership to drive yields, maintain quality standards, and ensure efficient, compliant operations across all cultivation areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Plant Growth Oversight: Manage and oversee all stages of plant growth, from clone to harvest, across multiple cultivation zones (clone, veg, flower, mother, tissue culture).
- Team Leadership & Support: Lead and support cultivation supervisors and department leads, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and training to ensure departmental success.
- Production Planning: Develop and execute production schedules to meet facility targets for yield, quality, and timing.
- Plant Health Management: Monitor plant health across all growth phases, working with leads to identify and resolve pest, disease, and nutrient issues promptly.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all California cannabis regulations, including plant tracking, waste management, pesticide use, and METRC reporting.
- Data Entry & Tracking: Oversee and validate accurate data entry in METRC and internal tracking systems for plant movements, harvests, and destruction.
- Facility Walkthroughs: Conduct regular walkthroughs of all cultivation areas to ensure plants are thriving and staff are following SOPs.
- Inventory Management: Manage cultivation inventory, including nutrients, substrates, tools, and environmental inputs.
- Compliance Coordination: Work with the compliance team to prepare for inspections, conduct internal audits, and implement corrective actions.
- Performance Analysis: Analyze cultivation performance metrics and make informed decisions to improve yields, reduce loss, and increase efficiency.
- Cross-department Coordination: Coordinate with facility operations, post-harvest, and manufacturing teams to maintain production flow.
- Staff Training: Ensure all cultivation staff are trained in safety, SOPs, and regulatory compliance.
- Culture & Leadership: Foster a positive, productive culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and high standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of commercial cannabis cultivation experience, with at least 2 years in a management or senior leadership role.
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of plant biology, horticulture, integrated pest management (IPM), and environmental controls.
- Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of California cannabis compliance requirements and experience with METRC.
- Leadership Skills: Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, train, and inspire a diverse cultivation team.
- Analytical Skills: Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Multitasking: Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, labor-intensive environment.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency with cultivation tracking software, spreadsheets, and production reporting tools.
- Hands-On Leadership: Comfortable working hands-on when needed and leading by example.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work as required
Education & Experience
- Education Requirements: High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- Previous Work Experience: Minimum 5 year of experience in a cannabis cultivation environment or related agricultural field, with leadership experience preferred.
- Certifications or Licenses: No specific certifications required.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Physical Labor: Ability to work in a facility with exposure to bright lighting, varying temperatures, plant material, and humidity levels. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks such as transplanting, watering, and labeling.
- Travel: This role does not require travel.
