Mission Statement:
Transitions Mental Health Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating stigma and promoting recovery and wellness for people with mental illness through work, housing, community and family support services.
Position Summary:
The Support Host for the Wellness Center is responsible for the organization and direction of adult clients with psychiatric disabilities in acquiring and enhancing skills that will help enable them to live and work successfully in the community utilizing a trauma informed approach. This position promotes social rehabilitation, independence, wellness and recovery both inside the community and outside, to the surrounding community. The Support Host is responsible for having knowledge and skills in all aspects of the program. The Support Host will uphold and promote the program philosophy in all duties performed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Supervises clients of mental health services offering social support, skills training, recreation activities, and assistance with independent living.
2. Provides safe transportation to clients by driving them to activities as necessary. Performs basic safety checks on program facility, and vehicle maintenance, shops for program needs, and organized leisure activities. May be required to perform some janitorial services and house maintenance.
3. Assist with the planning & preparing food for monthly luncheons including the purchasing of food items, proper storage and handling of food.
4. Complete orientations for those members wanting to use the computer lab and keep ongoing sign in sheets, track use of lab and class attendance.
5. Supervise use of the computers lab room and provide support and assistance with digital literacy to computer lab users.
6. Provide general oversight of operation of the computer lab, including welcoming users, keeping equipment in good working order and keeping the room and equipment clean and organized.
7. Organize and maintain weekly cleaning schedule to ensure sanitary, and safe work environment.
8. Functions as a role model to clients with regard to treatment, communication, and as an employee is responsible in establishing and maintaining a positive working environment.
9. Meets with and communicates program issues to the Program Supervisor and works as part of a collaborative team with peers, clients, and the staff of other TMHA programs, BWell and other agencies.
10. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA’s Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.
11. Communicates both positive and constructive feedback clearly and in a timely manner with staff. Remains approachable and open for staff to communicate problems or ask questions.
12. Represents management positively and takes ownership of policies when enforcing them. When questions or issues with management arise, they are directed to management for resolution. Accepts constructive feedback from supervisor and others.
13. Facilitates computer lab classes, support groups, and outing; co-facilitates activities, and center related events
14. Completes daily documentation by following standards set by TMHA.
15. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor
Job Environment:
1. Moderate, physical activity; may include moving or lifting up to 25 lbs.
2. Involves moderate risks which require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potential crisis situations.
3. Possible intense situations related to confrontational or oppositional adults.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Individuals must have lived experience as a consumer or family member of mental health services
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and oral/written communication skills.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office & Libre Office Program, or willing to learn and maintain proficient computer skills
- Well defined organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and flexibly.
- Able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level.
- Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure.
- Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business.
- Conditions of employment include:
· Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. · Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. · Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees.· Comply with a T.B. assessment (possibly a TB test to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. · Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
