About the opportunity: 

Job summary:

Responsible for the planning, supervision, and evaluation of the daily operations of treatment programs for children and/or adolescents. Provides the direct supervision, orientation, training, scheduling, and evaluation of assigned treatment staff, providers, and volunteers. Within the guidelines established by the assigned supervisor oversees and coordinates implementation of the treatment plan in the classroom by the assigned staff.  Position requires availability to respond to emergencies.  Job is demanding with frequent deadlines, meetings, and interruptions.

Major Responsibilities

  • During the assigned shift, ensures the safety and security of all program clients.
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned staff and is responsible to assign and directing work.
  • Provides on-the-job training and consultation in operations policy and procedure, and program treatment process.
  • Responsible for arranging and assuring staff coverage and responding to program staff requests for time off.
  • Provides direction and consultation to assigned staff regarding daily care, issues identified in the treatment plan, and in the process of assisting clients to attain treatment goals.
  • Provides leadership to the treatment team, modeling professionalism and effective communication, problem-solving, and decision making.
  • Conducts written performance evaluations for assigned staff in a timely manner.
  • Provides coaching, counseling, grievance adjustment, the discipline of assigned staff according to agency policy.
  • Facilitates classroom treatment activities.
  • Ensures that program staff are represented in treatment team meetings, filling in for them as required.
  • Ensures and coordinates the implementation and adjustment of treatment plans.
  • Monitors clients’ progress toward goal attainment and ensures that current detailed behavioral progress data is presented to the treatment team.

Required Competencies:

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Provides support to children in school and collaborates with school personnel.
  • Administer medications as trained and instructed by Health Services staff.
  • Attends all required meetings or ensures appropriate representation.
  • Writes professional documents and enters data in TIER as required.
  • Oversees and reviews incident reports, charts, and treatment documents.
  • Interviews job applicants for program treatment staff and make recommendations regarding the hiring of applicants.
  • Ensures all staff in the assigned department have completed training in a timely manner.
  • Complete all required training for the position.
  • Meets regularly with assigned staff for supervision and documents appropriately.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and ability to coach and supervise staff use of CPS with clients.
  • Demonstrates Proficiency in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) techniques and ability to coach and supervise staff proficiency in NCI techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides direct supervision to assigned staff, interns and volunteers.  Interviews job applicants and make hiring recommendations. Adjusts grievances brought by assigned staff and recommends resolution.  Issues verbal and written warnings to assigned staff and recommends additional discipline up to and including termination.  Prepares performance evaluations of staff, interns, and volunteers.  Arranges staff coverage and responds to assigned staff’s requests for time off.
  • Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science (30-36 quarter hours of mental health classes) or related field preferred or equivalent education/relevant experience.  (Qualified Mental Health Associate).
  • Experience:  Prefer two (2) full years’ experience as a direct care worker with at-risk children and youth in a treatment setting.
