Patient Care Assistant
Department: Inpatient Rehab
Location: Chelsea, MI hospital
Minimum pay rate: $16/hr based upon applicable on the job patient care experience
Position Purpose:
The PCA, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.
Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success. The PCA assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
The Inpatient Rehab units at Chelsea Hospital care for patients requiring comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation after traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular accidents, amputations, debility, poly trauma or spinal cord injuries. Inpatient Rehab is a collaborative program between Chelsea Hospital and University of Michigan Health, staffed by a team of award-winning U-M Health rehab physicians and Chelsea Hospital nurses, therapists, and specialists.
54trInpatient Rehab is expanding to two units with a total of 40 beds by the end of 2024 through a more than $10 million capital investment. With the expansion, we will participate in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model System and accept higher acuity patients.
Shifts Available: Evening Shift – 2:30pm-11pm
Status Available: Part time, benefit eligible (40 hours per pay period – every two weeks)
Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Recent experience desired.
