Job Description:
Certified Peer Counselors will work with patients and their counselors as they address a variety of health and psychological needs. They will provide education around issues such as domestic violence, nicotine cessation, parenting skills and will help combat the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences and develop resiliency.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will:
- Have high school diploma or GED.
- Willing and be able to become a Certified Peer Counselor through the state of Washington (WAC 182-538D-0200).

The hourly range for this position is $17.25-$22.40.

Certified Peer Counselor Duties:
- Help develop recovery plans (internal/external) resources to begin and maintain recovery.
- Arrange, accompany, and/or transport individuals to their first substance use disorder assessment appointments.
- Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
- Visit families in the home or community to provide support.
- Support individual’s treatment attendance and participation in self-help groups.
- Assist individuals in accessing services such as housing, social services, health benefits, childcare, education, transportation, and employment to overcome barriers to recovery.
- Provide information, referrals, advocacy, and follow-up contact for continued services.
- Serve as a liaison between substance use treatment, child welfare, and the court.
- Help child welfare and court professionals understand substance use disorders, treatment, and the recovery process.
- Obtain and maintain appropriate training and continuing education as mandated by contract requirements and the Department of Health.
- Maintain all client’s records on a current basis and in accordance with the agency standards and state, federal, and contract requirements always ensuring confidentiality.
- Serve as an advocate to speak on the patient’s behalf.
