ROLE OVERVIEW:
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Driver Supervisor in the administration of daily outbound shipments, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency in all duties. Responsibilities include supervising drivers, assisting in route management, and addressing delivery challenges to maintain a high level of customer service. This position plays a critical role in maintaining operational continuity and supporting the Driver Supervisor with day-to-day tasks.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Driver Supervisor in overseeing the work and productivity of drivers.
- Ensure drivers are appropriately trained in their job duties, safety protocols, and legal responsibilities.
- Schedule drivers for routes based on established methodologies.
- Support the investigation of accidents, maintain accident records, and help identify preventive measures.
- Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of driver files.
- Organize and assist in the loading of products for delivery, ensuring optimal routes and schedules.
- Gather and manage all paperwork required for deliveries.
- Monitor compliance with Federal Department of Transportation regulations, state laws, and other regulations.
- Maintain communication channels to encourage upward feedback and promote a positive work environment.
- Assist in conducting safety meetings and routine driver check-ins.
- Act as point of contact for troubleshooting delivery-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Provide input on driver performance and participate in pre-employment interviews and candidate selection.
- Serve as a backup for the Driver Supervisor during periods of absence.
- Open facility at beginning of day, unload transfer truck, load local trucks, load returns on transfer, ensure all items in sample bin are properly loaded onto local trucks or staged for pick up.
- Check drivers in when returning from routes, reconcile payments and load sheets, close facility.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED
- Must be 18 or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 years Transportation or Delivery experience
- Must be able to interpret and implement all necessary State and Federal transportation laws and regulations
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have a clean driving record
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- Outstanding Verbal & Written Communication Skills
- Ability to multi-task with minimal errors
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and within necessary time constraints
- Must be a team player and work well under minimal supervision
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to operate various tools and equipment necessary for the position
PREFERRED
- Previous Transportation or Fleet Supervisor experience
- Previous food service or distribution experience
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee will perform work in these areas:
- Warehouse dock
The noise level in these areas is normally moderate.
