ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
Performs preventative maintenance procedures on light-duty staff vehicles, heavy-duty fire apparatus, and various auxiliary apparatus and equipment.
DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR
Performs advanced level diagnostics and corrective maintenance procedures on light-duty staff vehicles, heavy-duty fire apparatus, and various auxiliary apparatus and equipment. Systems include but are not limited to electrical, drive train, hydraulics, suspension, tires, brakes, engine emissions, fire suppression, and vehicle accessories. Obtains information and communicates with vendors to understand technical specifications and procedures, and ordering technically-specific parts. Communicates directly with internal customers to understand concerns and inform diagnosis as well as updating status of repairs and maintenance.
OPERATES APPARATUS
Performs road tests, and operates staff vehicles, heavy-duty fire apparatus, and various auxiliary apparatus for preventative maintenance, diagnostic procedures, annual testing, and repair confirmation.
DESIGN, FABRICATION, INSTALLATION
Communicates with internal customers to understand functional needs. Designs, fabricates, and installs a variety of items as necessary for special projects, vehicle set-ups, and modifications
DOCUMENTATION
Records labor, parts, and comments to reflect all maintenance and repairs performed.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Transports vehicles and equipment throughout the Portland Metro area as needed to District maintenance facilities, outside vendor establishments, and customer locations. May pick up and deliver parts from local vendors as directed.
- Assists with maintenance and cleaning tasks at the Logistics Service Center.
- Participates in Divisional project development as assigned.
- May perform maintenance, repair, and annual certification on various types of District equipment as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). An associate degree in automotive and / or diesel technology is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years experience as a general mechanic with demonstrated experience in all onboard systems. Five (5) years of experience is preferred.

COMPENSATION
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,622-$8,960 per month. Per the collective bargaining agreement, the starting pay assignment for this position is the entry step of $6,622 per month.

Monday-Friday 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm
WORK LOCATION
The position primarily works onsite at TVF&R's Logistics Service Center located at 9991 SW Avery St, Tualatin, OR 97062

The Fleet Technician position is represented by the IAFF Local 1660. Current salary and benefits reflect the non-represented benefit package, but may change based on future negotiations.
Merit pay increases
High-performing employees who are not already at the top of the relevant pay grade range are rewarded with annual merit-based pay increases. Eligible salary increases are governed by performance and placement in the pay range.
Time off accruals
TVF&R provides generous paid time off for full-time employees, including vacation, sick leave, and personal leave. Those accruals begin immediately upon employment with no waiting period.
Paid holidays
In addition to the paid time off noted above, the District recognizes 11 paid holidays per year, also available immediately upon employment.
Other paid time off
Other paid time off include leaves for bereavement, military duty and jury duty.
Medical and dental insurance
Full-time employees (and eligible spouse / dependents) may enroll in comprehensive medical and dental coverage, in which the District pays 90% of monthly premiums. TVF&R establishes and contributes funds to an HRA VEBA for employees, which can be used to pay for out-of-pocket medical and dental expenses during active employment or after separation. Employees with existing coverage may opt out of medical and / or dental coverage and receive a monthly stipend.
Dental insurance
Comprehensive dental coverage is also offered to full-time employees. As with medical coverage, the District pays 90% of monthly premiums.
Life insurance / AD&D / LTD
The District provides generous life insurance coverage to full-time employees and dependents, as well as accidental death and dismemberment insurance and long-term disability insurance. There is no cost to eligible employees.
Retirement plans
TVF&R has a number of plans offered to support the long-term "wealthcare" of its staff. There are four methods of funding retirement savings, some of which are funded by the employee, some by the employer. Together, these plans add a considerable amount to total compensation.

One of the job requirements for the Fleet Technician position is to have a valid Oregon Class B commercial driver's license (Class A preferred) with air brake and tank endorsements.
