The Tulane University School of Social Work (TSSW) (http://tssw.tulane.edu) is seeking an exceptional Professors of Practice starting in summer 2025 to join our top tier faculty of 25 full time colleagues and over 20 Adjunct members of the team. Professors of Practice positions are full-time non-tenure-track 12-month appointments with primary duties of teaching and student advising for our MSW, DSW, and MS-DRL (Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership) programs. These programs of distinction are delivered in both online and on-campus formats.
The successful candidate will add to the School’s rich history and exceptional faculty in the dynamic and multicultural New Orleans area. Tulane University is a Carnegie designated Research I institution located in the vibrant city of New Orleans. The Tulane School of Social Work draws its strength from over 100 years of effective clinical training and powerful community work. We invite applications especially in the areas of Gerontology, Geriatric Social Work, and Research. Backgrounds (at all levels: macro, mezzo, and micro) in mental health, health disparities, addictive behaviors, community-based clinical practice, participatory research methods, and prevention/intervention expertise are preferred. Previous experience in teaching innovative online and hybrid courses are also of particular interest to us.
Professors of Practice will teach in the School’s on-ground MSW, online MSW and DSW curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching 3 courses per semester (total course load 9 courses per 12 months), advising students, participating in curriculum and program development, tasks specific to accreditation, student recruitment and retention, student services, community outreach, and serving on committees. Approximately 90% of this position’s effort will be spent on teaching related-activities and 10% on service-related activities. Courses will vary across micro, mezzo, and macro practice areas.
Since practicum is the signature pedagogy of social work education, it is expected that successful candidates will instruct one practicum course per semester.
