What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Nursing Staff position at Turquoise Trail Veterinary Urgent Care?
Hello! We're looking for nursing team members to help us open our new veterinary urgent care practice, Turquoise Trail Veterinary Urgent Care. If hired, you'll work directly with the three founders/co-owners every day, and you'll have the opportunity to shape the way the practice operates and grows.
- Applications will be reviewed as soon as they come in; we will schedule phone calls with the folks who look good on paper, then in-person interviews for everybody whose phone calls go well
- We will make all our hiring decisions by Friday, August 9th
- The first pay period will start around Monday, August 19th for training, etc.
- Our projected opening date is Friday, September 13th (yes, that's right)
- When we open, the practice hours will be 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, plus 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays for scheduled follow-up appointments

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Must have...
- Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility*
- Excellent communications skills
- Telephone and computer skills are necessary
Must be...
- Friendly, outgoing, “people-oriented”
- Able and willing to be cross-trained for client care duties that will be expected in the job
- A team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments and to accept change
*Actually, we would like to hire two people without previous experience, so don't let this completely scare you away from applying! If you are smart, hard-working, and interested in getting into vet med, this would be a great fit for you.
Education and experience
- High school diploma (or equivalent) or higher a plus, but not required
- Should have experience working with the public, i.e. restaurant, retail or service business.
- Ideal applicants will also have experience working in a veterinary hospital or other healthcare setting
Physical requirements
- Dependable attendance is required
- Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
- Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions
- This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 10-hour day
- Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone
- Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, radiology equipment, laboratory equipment, computers, etc.
