What are the responsibilities and job description for the RESEARCH ENGINEER III position at UAB Health System?
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Engineering and Technology Development (EITD) department https://www.uab.edu/engineering/eitd/ is seeking a project engineer to join our team. This position will provide the opportunity to work as part of a multi-discipline engineering team that specializes in the development of cold stowage systems for use in microgravity and space exploration. The systems developed by our team provide researchers with a means of preserving experiments in a thermally controlled environment onboard the International Space Station, as well as onboard launch and landing vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primary responsibilities will include developing viable mechanical or electrical systems and component designs based on project requirements and specifications.
- Produces and supervises the associated engineering drawings and schematics for use in the fabrication and assembly of complex engineering hardware and devices.
- Reviews and checks engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications and requirements.
- Works with CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) (SolidEdge and/orProE) Mechanical design software or OrCAD electrical design software.
- Demonstrates design experience with high-reliability instruments and works closely with engineers of other disciplines to develop systems.
- Other responsibilities will include general support for the multi-disciplinary engineering team, in areas such as reviewing and checking engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications and requirements.
- Supervises/mentors less experienced engineers and student employees on projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and six (6) years of STEM related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. U.S. Citizenship preferred.

Salary : $77,640 - $126,170
