The Occupational Therapist 2 (OT 2) serves as a journey-level clinician, responsible for providing comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to patients as assigned by the Occupational Therapy Supervisor. Incumbents in this role bring a broad range of clinical experience and demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

OT 2 therapists assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment programs for patients with complex conditions, applying sound clinical judgment in both documentation and care decisions. They also serve as a resource to entry-level therapists, offering clinical guidance and mentorship.

In addition to direct patient care, the OT 2 contributes to staff development through orientation and participation in training programs. Their expertise and leadership play a vital role in maintaining high standards of care within the department.

Minimum Qualifications: For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license, certification, and/or educational degree if required for the position

  • California Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification or UC Davis Health CPR Certification
  • Graduated from an accredited physical therapy program (bachelor’s degree or higher) in the U.S. or completed requirements for foreign-trained physical therapists working in the U.S.
  • Must have several years of clinical experience in the field of Occupational Therapy
  • Experience working in an acute care physical therapy setting
  • Experienced in documentation via Electronic Medical Record
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills of occupational therapy theory and practices as evidenced by several years of clinical experience
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive/ perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, and use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities, including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual/cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints, and adapted devices
  • Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
  • Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping
  • Skills in written communication that allow for clear, concise, and well-organized conveyance of thought
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English
  • Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
  • Willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
  • Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of healthcare professionals
  • Ability to write progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate the scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to organize time
  • Ability to be flexible and cooperative
  • Ability to organize training material
  • Skill in organizing written material
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of a licensed occupational therapist as required and assigned by leadership
  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • AOTA Clinical Educator Certification or willingness to obtain

Key Responsibilities

  • 90% - As a journey-level therapist, able to provide Physical Therapy services to complex, complicated patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings, as assigned through the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • 5% - Miscellaneous assignments as required
  • 5% - Educational Activities

Department Overview

The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The rehabilitation hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.
