Intern - Academic Policy

Primary Work Location:

One Beacon Street, Boston, MA. Remote Work Schedule

Normal Work Schedule:

M-F, up to 40 hours per week during the Summer and 20 hours during the semester

Job Summary:

The Intern - Academic Policy for the Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Equity division will work with Senior Vice President Walker on topics related to higher education policy, Massachusetts general law, UMass trustee policies, federal higher education policy, as well as summarizing and synthesizing current executive orders, memoranda, and proclamations from the federal government that impact higher education and UMass. Specifically, the candidate will develop executive summaries, presentations, memos, and other educational and information materials that advance the use of artificial intelligence to conduct in-depth research, gather intelligence, and synthesize information on the topics mentioned above and the five UMass campuses. The candidate should be an effective writer, a creative content developer for presentation and slide deck development, and conscientious in their work. An enthusiasm for innovation, equity, and adapting to new tools and technologies is preferred. Open to active UMass students only.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

• Current UMass student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study.
• GPA 3.0 or higher.
• Excellent writing, research and analytical skills
• Creative, eager to learn, motivated, and willing to take the initiative on assigned projects/tasks.
• Reliable and detail-oriented with a strong ability to multitask, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and possess good follow-up skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when interacting with staff.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

Students who have experienced economic disadvantage, are the first in their family to attend college or graduate from college, or have attended or engaged with community colleges or dual enrollment programs are encouraged to apply.
