What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Counselor position at UNC Health Southeastern?
POSITION SUMMARY: To perform the general duties related to Insurance verification and Pre Certification for all patients. Serve as a liaison between Patient Access, Patient Financial Services, Care Management, and Physician’s Offices.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: High school diploma with 6 to 12 months experience in a professional or healthcare related business office or similar experience in a Clinical setting such as an acute care hospital or Ambulatory Surgical Center. Incumbent must be proficient in the use of keyboard and basic computer applications.
Preferred: Above plus college level coursework in related field.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: The possession of good interpersonal skills and good verbal, written, and electronic communications skills as well as basic computer skills and familiarity with internet & email are required. Clinical experience and or medical terminology & coding preferred.
Incumbent requires an ability to communicate orally and have manual dexterity to handle keyboard and related operations. Frequent talking and hearing is required in person, via telephone, and via visual electronic data medium is required, in order to perform these duties. A moderate amount of walking, sitting, and lifting is required. Incumbent must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently.
