POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Therapist is responsible for coordinating mental health care services for American Indian clients in Los Angeles County. They will provide assessment and counseling/therapy to eligible children, youth, and adults as a member of a treatment team. The Therapist identifies needs and coordinates sessions with clients on one-to-one therapeutic counseling regarding mental health or substance abuse issues. The Therapist will provide supervision to unlicensed Therapists. The Therapist will be a part of a unique multi-disciplinary team, and most services are provided in the field. If Bilingual in Spanish, the salary range will increase by $8,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Field Work:
- Provide 24-hour availability and crisis intervention as needed/required.
- Possess a reliable vehicle with a valid CA driver's license and active auto insurance.
- Heavy individual/family in-home visits for counseling services to children, youth, and adults with a range of psychological, emotional, and behavioral problems, some office services may apply.
- Accept intake and initial assessment of children, adolescents and adults referred to the Center.
- Assess family dynamics and home environment and prepare reports as needed or required.
- Partner with the Case Coordinator to obtain resources for the client to sustain the client's involvement in center programs/treatment.
- Provide group treatment, parent support groups, and/or parenting classes as needed/required.
- Maintain aftercare follow-up and support/assistance to clients completing center programs/treatment.
Community Support:
- Partner in case planning with other center clinicians, consulting specialists, and representatives from schools, DCFS, and other jurisdictions as required or needed.
- Participate in Outpatient Staff meetings, Clinical Case Conferences, and other meetings as appropriate or assigned.
- Conduct in-service training to center staff and others as assigned.
Administration:
- Productivity – 65% of hours worked each week must be billable productivity. For a 40-hour workweek, the billable productivity requirement is 26 hours.
- Able to submit all completed paperwork to supervisor within 24 hours of seeing client.
- Maintain client charts in a responsible manner and meet all paperwork deadlines as required by DCFS, DMH and agency policy (e.g. complete case notes and discharge notes on timely basis, etc.).
- Arrange work schedule to benefit the center program and clients with the approval of the Clinical Supervisor/Program Director.
- Comply with agency guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Keep Program Director well-informed regarding activities, pending issues and potential problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum one-year clinical experience working with multiple-problem families (e.g. unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, etc.).
- Minimum one-year clinical experience with children and families.
- Some experience providing home-based/community-based counseling services.
Required Education:
MA in clinical psychology, MSW or Ph.D./Psy.D. in psychology from an accredited graduate program.

Certifications:
- License eligible required.
- California license (licensed psychologist, LMFT, LCSW).
- Eligible for a registration number from the Board of Behavioral Sciences or waiver from the State.

- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPPA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures.
- This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach of confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.
Communication/ Interpersonal Skills:
- Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in English.
Technology Skills:
- Working knowledge of MS Office, and Google Suite.
- Ability to use iPad.
Other Skills:
- Demonstrate ability to exercise a high level of judgment, accept supervision, and exercise a high level of accuracy and organization.
- Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are a must.
- Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position.
- Available and willing to travel as needed, travel time can be between 25-40%.
- Maintains personal responsibility for maintaining valid licensure and ensuring timely completion of appropriate Continuing Education. Units for renewal of license.
POSITION PREFERENCES:
- Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups and performance-based government contracts.
- Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638).
- Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. $8,000 increase from a base salary!
