United Martial Arts Center is one of the longest standing and highest performing martial arts studios in the Fort Myers area; proudly serving our community for over the last thirty years. Our after-school program provides a constructive alternative to daycare with a focus on equipping our students with the discipline and self-control needed for a successful future. As a Child Care Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting in maintenance of an orderly, safe and pleasant atmosphere in our homework room by helping and supervising students during our after school program in accordance with United Martial Arts Center policy and established procedures.

The ideal candidate should have an interest in pursuing education, enrolled in an accredited university, and/or possess an educational background. They should have strong organizational skills along with the ability to direct and manage students at the elementary age level. They should also have a solid foundation in math, reading, and language arts. In addition to having the desire and ability to develop and maintain a strong team environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide care for children while stressing individual needs within the developmental framework of social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.
• Provide positive guidance and encouragement to each student while allowing them to act independently.
• Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
• Maintain a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
• Assist with proper student check in and dismissal procedures for the After-school Program.
• Check student planners, and provide assistance with homework.
• Perform light cleaning duties in order to maintain the overall cleanliness of the classroom and the surrounding areas.
• Become knowledgeable of our school’s philosophy, mission statement, and policies.

Requirements:

• Must be nurturing, patient, and enjoy interacting with children on a daily basis.
• Must have the ability to identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action; under the supervision of the Program Director.
• Must have the ability to politely and effectively resolve conflicts, while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with parents, children and other co-workers.
• Must have the ability to work independently, but be able to actively listen and follow instructions.
• Must have the desire to enthusiastically greet and politely engage parents at drop-off and pick-up times.
• Must possess excellent time management skills, and be able to prioritize assigned tasks.

Education/Experience Required: High School education, in addition to: one year related experience, training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state driver’s license along with a reliable form of transportation.

Background Requirement: Have the ability to pass a thorough background screening. We are a drug-free employer.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to parents, students, customers and other employees of the company. Bilingual a plus.

Hours: Employees must be available to work Monday through Friday; from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
