Universal Photonics, Inc. a Manufacturing and Distribution facility located on Long Island seeks a CNC Router Operator. The successful candidate will support the Research and Development department with programming, set-up, and operation of CNC machinery.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
Program, set-up, and operate CNC Routers for the production of multiple products using a range of laminates, plastics, and thin metal materials. Prepare drawings using SolidWorks and program machines using MasterCam. This is a hands-on position that requires a strong technical background and ability to work with CAD systems, tools, materials, and machinery.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program, set-up, and operate CNC Routers
- Capable of programming and coding using machine programmers, Mastercam, and RhinoCam.
- Calculate speed and feed to achieve optimum quality and production.
- Maintain and edit programs to improve processes.
- Select proper tooling for materials being machined.
- Select and design holding fixtures and attachments for parts produced.
- Work with engineers on preparation of drawings.
- Maintain updated priority list of projects and work load.
- Test new materials and tools for the production of products produced using CNC routers.
- Assist in establishing manufacturing processes for new products.
- Monitor and change cutting tools as needed.
- Clean finished parts as required.
- Inspect parts and assist in establishing QC specifications for new products.
- Maintain inventory of CNC Router tooling.
- Prepare and implement a maintenance schedule for CNC routers.
- Maintain a clean and neat work area.
- The selected candidate will primarily be working with CNC router, but will also have the opportunity to work with other CNC machinery and manufacturing processes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Experienced and trained in the programming, set-up, and operation of CNC Routers or Milling Machines.
- Knowledge of different materials used in manufacturing processes (including different grades of steel, aluminum, plastics, laminates, plastics, and other materials).
- Knowledge of different tooling used in manufacturing processes.
- Work with a minimal amount of supervision while maintaining communication with team.
- Proficiency in the use of CAD and programing software such as Mastercam and Solidworks.
- Proficient in in the use of software programs such as Microsoft office.
- Ability to use measuring and Q/C tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Strong math skills.
- Good written and verbal communications skills required.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Other responsibilities to support company objectives as required.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to handle moderate to heavy jigs, dies, fixtures, gauges, special hand or manufacturing tools, parts, models, raw material, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. Frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Occasionally required to climb or balance. These conditions include, but are not limited to heat, cold, dust, dirt, noise, and hazardous materials.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
