Job Title: CERTIFIED WELD INSPECTOR

Location: Tempe, Arizona

Reports to: Project Manager

Summary

University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Certified Weld Inspector to lead welding quality control efforts on mechanical construction projects. The Certified Weld Inspector is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry codes, project specifications, and safety standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Include the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Inspect welds and materials per AWS, ASME, API standards
  • Develop and manage welding QC plans and documentation
  • Review WPS, PQR, and WPQ
  • Perform visual and NDT inspections
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors and clients
  • Maintain welder certifications and inspection records
  • Support training and resolve quality issues

PREFERRED EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Welding Tech or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in HVAC or piping systems
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • 3–5 years of welding QC experience in construction
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME IX, API 1104
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Additional certifications (e.g., NDT Level II, ASQ)
  • Additional certifications (e.g., NDT Level II, ASQ
