Position Summary:
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of Development for the Heersink School of Medicine, O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center team. The primary responsibilities are to develop and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals, corporations and foundations and grateful patients for major gifts to support the Radiation Oncology, Urology, Otolaryngology departments and specific program within the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. The position will work with the Department Chairs and others within the Departments/Divisions to manage the planning and execution of appropriate cultivation and stewardship special events, including planning and hosting visits by donors and their representatives. Within the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Director of Development will partner with third party events benefiting the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Development with the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This position is full-time, hybrid eligible after the probationary period.

- Plan, implement and execute O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center third party events to help solicit gifts
- Work with physician and medical faculty in devising plans to cultivate and solicit grateful patients for Radiation Oncology, Urology and Surgical-Oncology
- Facilitate and support activities and fundraising efforts at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field
- 5 years of fundraising or equivalent experience
- 2 years of major gift experience
- Work experience may not be substituted for education requirement
- After-hours work and travel required
- Higher education or health care experience
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
- CRM
- HIPAA
