Department: CHASSE Student Services Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Academic Advisor will advise pre-admitted students in Elementary Education, Middle Childhood Education, and Special Education. The Academic Advisor will provide support for initiatives in student success, recruitment, and retention. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institutional policy. Qualifications: Required Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree. Preferred Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education; Experience teaching in K-12. Experience in a higher education setting. Job Duties: Serve as a primary advisor for pre-admitted students in Elementary Education, Middle Childhood Education, and Special Education; Develop and maintain accurate advising records and electronic documents in an organized manner and distribute information internally and to other UALR offices as appropriate; Support recruitment, retention, and assessment initiatives in the College, including student outreach and attendance at events; Assist in planning, implementing, and managing services for CHASSE students; Oversee the transfer process of incoming CHASSE students and aid in the transfer of credits, articulation issues, and understanding university/program requirements; Provide academic support to prospective, incoming, and current CHASSE students and connect them with appropriate UALR advisors, resources, and services; Empower students to become proficient and self-sufficient within the UALR system; Assist with necessary academic interventions and refer students to appropriate UALR and community resources; Acquire, apply, and maintain expert knowledge of UALR’s undergraduate admissions standards, national and UALR college placement test standards, advising procedures, and degree requirements; Utilize appropriate documents, resources, and UALR systems (UALR Banner, BOSS, Degree Works, etc.) to confirm and inform students of degree requirements; Provide administrative support for the CHASSE graduation checkout process in an accurate and timely manner; Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication skills; Work well independently, as a team member, or in large group settings; Strong customer service abilities; Establish and maintain effective working relationships in a non-judgmental manner with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and administrators; Effectively balance multiple student demands and projects; Demonstrate organizational and prioritization abilities in accomplishing tasks; Familiarity with various academic advising models and advising strategies; Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; Ability to adapt to change; Effectively operate and utilize a computer, telephone, photocopier, fax, scanner, Internet, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), and Google Suite; Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends as needed; Knowledge of university structures and academic programs.
