Summary of Job Duties :

The Research Assistant Professor is a 12-month, non-tenure track position (100% appointed) that will work on Climate Smart Agriculture in the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering. The primary activity will be to conduct academic research in association with Dr. Benjamin Runkle’s research group.

As an active member of Runkle’s research group, you will assist with decision-making regarding project execution, research directions, and laboratory growth with a priority in developing a climate-smart agriculture research program. Participate in grant writing, budgeting, and project oversight activities, and will assist with mentoring of trainees in the lab. Management of multiple research projects to ensure successful and timely completion of the project milestones will be required.

Have a commitment to the active pursuit of a research agenda leading to refereed scholarship, professional presentations, and external funding. Field visits to irrigated and non-irrigated agricultural fields in Arkansas and other states may be required. This is a full-time, 3-year term appointment that is renewable upon budgetary approval and is in the non-tenured, appointment stream with promotion potential along a career track.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications :

Minimum qualifications :

An earned doctorate in biological engineering, environmental science, ecology, geosciences, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Demonstrated knowledge of project management and supervision of multiple projects in complex and technical environments

Demonstrated knowledge of rice agricultural systems and sustainability

Demonstrated ability to produce peer-reviewed publications in agricultural, engineering, and geoscientific or related fields

Demonstrated knowledge of environmental data management

Demonstrated knowledge of chamber flux techniques

Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural sustainability calculators and decision support tools
