Through the study of literature, film, history, philosophy, popular culture, and visual art, students in Humanities Core delve into how meaning is made and learn various forms of analysis to gain a greater understanding of social interaction and human creativity. Over the course of the year, lectures by nine prominent faculty present a variety of cultural artifacts and modes of understanding human experience. In small seminars, students engage closely with this complex material while developing visual, oral, electronic, and written communication skills that will serve them in every academic discipline and in public life. Humanities Core enrolls over 1000 students each quarter, with instruction provided by senate faculty, Unit 18 faculty and Teaching Associates.
The Program Manager uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of Humanities Core, a large undergraduate interdisciplinary instructional program. Reports to the faculty director of Humanities Core and supports the instructional activity and academic personnel actions for the Unit 18 faculty and teaching associates that teach in the Program. Performs short- and long-term financial and curricular planning for the organization. Supervises one staff member. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
