Position description

Faculty Positions | Pediatric Brain Center, UCSF Dept of Neurology

The Department of Neurology at UCSF is recruiting new faculty members for the Instructor, Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor ranks of the Adjunct, HS Clinical, Clinical X, and In Residence faculty series. Selected candidates will provide patient care in the Pediatric Brain Center at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals (BCH) in San Francisco and Oakland. On its two campuses, BCH has 375 beds staffed by physicians from over 30 pediatric subspecialties. It is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the nation's Best Hospitals. Our trauma center In Oakland is an ACS-verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center (one of only five in California) and is dedicated exclusively to caring for children, with over 400 air transports and 48,000 emergency room visits per year. Both hospitals have acute rehabilitation programs, allowing us to follow patients with brain injury through their rehabilitation stays.

The UCSF Department of Neurology has two pediatric neurology divisions: the Division of Child Neurology (in San Francisco) and the BCH Oakland Division. Founded by Dr. Bruce Berg in the 1960's, the Division of Child Neurology was one of the first academic pediatric neurology programs on the West Coast. The BCH Oakland Division has its roots in a historic children's hospital--Children's Hospital Oakland--which for over 100 years has served the East Bay community as well as children from all regions of California. In 2014, the divisions joined forces within the BCH Pediatric Brain Center. The Pediatric Brain Center is marquee service line integrating neurology and neurosurgery care on both campuses. It is a patient-oriented center that specializes in highly coordinated care for complex nervous system diseases, while also advancing brain health through its research and training missions. The Center has over 30 pediatric neurology faculty, with experts in every subspecialty domain, internationally regarded basic and clinical research programs, a highly competitive Child Neurology residency program (three positions per year), and multiple clinical fellowships.

Qualified candidates will possess a medical degree, medical license, residency training in Pediatric Neurology, and Board-eligibility or certification in Neurology with Special Certification in Child Neurology. Candidates must meet all of the qualifications by the time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have an interest in out-patient general child neurology; candidates with subspecialty training who have an interest practicing both general child neurology and their subspecialty are also ideal. Candidate's application materials must list basic qualifications (or if pending) upon submission. Responsibilities may include providing direct patient care, administering and managing appropriate patient therapies, participation in research, and supervising students, residents, and fellows. Teaching responsibilities include didactic and informal teaching on clinical rounds, and/or informal laboratory teaching.

Applicants must apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF04875, with a cover letter, CV, a statement of your contributions to diversity, and the names, titles, and e-mail addresses of three peer references who we may contact directly. Applications received outside of the online process cannot be considered.
