The Office of Undergraduate Student Services at the Leeds School of Business welcomes applications for an Academic Advisor! Advisors at CU Boulder work in a collaborative team setting and are committed to building student-centered relationships that support the achievement of academic success, promote personal and professional development, and cultivate a sense of community. Advisors work to support and educate students through a developmental, holistic approach and are charged with developing and implementing advising strategies to enhance the performance and persistence of students through the successful transition to their best-fit academic path.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Academic Advising

  • As a member of the advising team, support an advising caseload comprised of prospective and incoming transfer and intra-university transfer (IUT) students.
  • Advise students with a life design coach approach regarding academic requirements and co-curricular opportunities. Advising responsibilities include: evaluating incoming transfer credit, creating customized degree plans, proactively providing student interventions, intrusive outreach, and design/delivery of group advising workshops. Advising may be done in person, on the phone/Zoom or via email. Provide comprehensive advising support that focuses on exploration, discovery, goal-setting, and supportive connection.
  • Collaborate with Leeds Career Advisors on a comprehensive process of exploration and decision-making.

Teach BADM 1250 Designing Your Leeds

  • Participate in the annual Designing Your Leeds instructor training.
  • Provide advising support and deliver advising modules in multiple sections.
  • Collaborate with the instructor team on standard methodologies around teaching, grading, classroom management, etc.
  • Hire and train a peer innovation coach to help facilitate in-class activities.
  • Instruct a minimum of two sections of BADM 1250.

Support Leeds IUT Process

  • Participate in campus-wide IUT meetings and trainings, and serve as a resource for campus advising community for Leeds IUT information
  • Review and process students for on-track registration access and academic program changes in conjunction with the campus IUT Coordinator.
  • Manage IUT Dashboard, intent tagging process and other available student data.
  • Track and manage communication with students who have been identified as on track.
  • Work closely with Associate Director on IUT application review and processing.

Transfer Student Success

  • Work closely with the Associate Director of First Year Experience on all initiatives that support transfer and IUT student success.
  • Support coordination of transfer and IUT programming including planning, marketing and execution of events.
  • Develop programming and processes including representing Leeds on campus committees that focus on transfer student success and onboarding.
  • Perform schedule checks for incoming and first-semester transfer students to ensure that their transfer credit has been correctly applied and that they are able to get on track with the Leeds curriculum as quickly as possible.

Project Support and Professional Development

  • Support various tasks such as orientation, graduation confirmation, commencement ceremony, probation and suspension, advising non-business students, preparing and delivering presentations, training and mentoring new employees, and acting as an outreach resource to the rest of the campus or community.
  • Lead training and professional development activities for staff and represent Leeds on departmental and university committees.

What You Should Know

  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • This position offers a hybrid work modality with three days on-site and two days remote.

What We Can Offer

The hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $54,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require

  • Completed bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Student-facing, professional experience such as academic advising, career counseling, or professional experience in a business setting

What You Will Need

  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of partners
  • Confidence in problem-solving to find solutions
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Willingness to work in an environment that may require some flexibility and evening work
  • Willingness and skill in public speaking
  • Knowledgeable about Design Thinking and experienced in instructing Life Design concepts

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, business, or a related field
  • Experience with advising technology/programs (for example, Degree Audit, Campus Solutions/PeopleSoft, TES)
  • Experience instructing a first-year seminar course
