Job Summary

Residence Life at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Hall Director! The Hall Director is a full-time, temporary, live-in position with educational, leadership, administrative, and advising responsibilities. This position will lead a community that prepares student to be outstanding contributors to their halls, classes, campus, and global society.

This position is responsible for the overall management of an undergraduate residence hall(s) of up to 550 students in a large housing operation. The main responsibility of this position is the administrative functions and actions related to the development of a residential community or complex. This includes the facilitation of student development through individual student interactions, building residence hall community, student leadership, and working closely with a Residential Academic Program (RAP) or Living Learning Community (LLC). Hall Directors supervise 6-25 paraprofessional student staff team members in multiple capacities.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Community and Leadership Development
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate educational and academic programming and maintain budgets and other fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Promote an inclusive student-centered residential environment that supports the academic mission of the institution.
  • Facilitate understanding and implementation of ResX (CU's Residential Curriculum model) with student staff and leaders in the community.
  • Advise student leaders in a community through initiatives such as Community Council (CoCo), developing their skills during programming, meetings, and 1:1 interactions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff within academic programs (FIGs, RAPs, and LLCs) to strengthen academic partnerships and connections.
  • Actively seek out opportunities for student leadership and involvement including advising Community Council, and supporting RHA and NRHH initiatives.
Supervision
  • Coach and supervise staff to become effective student leaders, through conducting performance reviews and coaching sessions as appropriate.
  • Supervise student staff to become effective student leaders, through 1:1 interactions, student staff meetings, and coaching conversations.
  • Curate student staff experience through development of relevant skills.
  • Support recruitment, hiring, and training processes for student and professional staff and actively seek opportunities for inclusive practice in all facets of human resource development.
  • Facilitate Residence Life communication efforts across all community staff positions.
Student Conduct
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer for departmental and university level violations and pursue opportunities for student learning within community impact.
  • Interpret and enforce residence hall and university policy and regulations.
  • Develop and implement responses to recurring issues and challenges that are impacting the community.
  • Update and maintain Maxient case files for incidents and students related to crisis, conduct, and elevated needs.
Emergency Response
  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 10,000 residents and provide crisis management assistance and follow up.
  • Identify students of concern in community and facilitate connection with university resources as appropriate.
  • Oversee the safety and security of a residential environment.
  • Uphold all departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.
Operations & Administration
  • Maintain regular interaction with facilities, environmental services, dining, occupancy management, and other key university partners.
  • Management of roommate agreements, mediation, and room change processes.
  • Coordinate processes such as community move-in, safety checks, damage billing, and move out.
  • Serve as fiduciary over community budgets to include the acquisition of supplies and appropriate utilization of funds to serve your residential community.
  • Support the management and operation of community centers.
External Relations
  • Serve as a representative of Residence Life on university committees and task forces as needed.
  • Partner proactively with student affairs and university offices to support the needs of students.
  • Assist with student retention and persistence efforts.

What You Should Know

  • This position serves in an emergency on-call rotation that requires occasional physical response.
  • This is a temporary, full-time live in position anticipated to last through fall semester 2024. This role will work Monday - Friday. Plus regular evening and weekend commitments.

What We Can Offer

The hourly pay range for this position is $22.16 - $22.82.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree. Related experience will substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • 2 years of experience working in residence life as a student or professionally.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in College Student Development or Higher Education Leadership from an accredited university.
  • Proven experience and dedication to diversity, inclusion and intercultural competence.
  • Experience with student conduct and crisis management.
  • Experience developing and implementing academic initiatives or residential curriculum.
  • Experience with supervision, budget management, advising and divisional collaboration.
