Summary

We seek a Scholarship Coordinator who oversees two scholarship programs and support for additional scholarship programs throughout the calendar year. You will manage scholarship application materials, participate in the application review and be part of the decision-making process for awarding need-based scholarships to LSA students. You will also do outreach to students and departments to increase awareness of funding opportunities. We seek candidates who enjoy working students, and are committed to supporting the needs of a diverse population of LSA students. The Scholarship Coordinator reports to the Director of the LSA Scholarships Office.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead LSA Internship Scholarship programs both domestic and international, and support the scholarship team in scholarship application review.
  • Lead the LSA Spring/Summer scholarships Program, and support and coordinate with units awarding departmental funding for Camp Davis, Biological Station, Semester in Detroit and Kitt Peak Observatory.
  • Evaluate and make decisions on individual scholarship applications and assess need-based funding requirements. Access, review, and interpret student financial aid packages to determine scholarship eligibility and funding.
  • Update, maintain, and interpret scholarship criteria and guidelines in the Scholarship Application system.
  • Match student recipients to donor gift accounts and general scholarship accounts.
  • Ensure deadlines are met, and awarding is processed meeting the timelines.
  • Communicate scholarship requirements to campus audiences, students, and staff.
  • Communicate scholarship decisions and rationale to student applicants.
  • Engage directly with internal and external audiences to promote funding resources and programming available.
  • Collaborate with the Director to determine annual budget and awarding goals.
  • Maintain and coordinate awarding plans with partner units, programs where funding crossover exists.
  • Stay apprised of state/national issues and best practices in admissions, recruitment, scholarships, study abroad, and financial aid.
  • Maintain communications relevant to programs in partnership with the Communications Coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education.
  • Experience collaborating with partner teams to achieve shared objectives, providing strategic insight, and leading continuous improvement efforts in customer service and operations.
  • Track record and experience achieving results by tracking necessary operational metrics, identifying process improvement opportunities, and delivering on strategic initiatives.
  • Must be a positive and collaborative team-member in this supportive work environment.
  • 1 years of experience in student services, and managing student needs and expectations, in a supportive atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated commitment to helping students and being sensitive to issues of diversity.
  • Can meet with students in person and share information regarding program funding and expectations
  • Reasonable knowledge of university policies, rules, and administrative procedures.
  • Experience developing and administering procedures.
  • Experience coordinating a diverse workload.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Passion for working with students and supporting the LSA Scholarships Office and institutional initiatives of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Working knowledge of the University's organizational policies, rules, regulations, procurement, and purchasing.
  • Working knowledge of Mpathways, specifically Student Financials and Financial Aid and Students Records and Admissions.
  • Experience working with application management systems.
