Job Description

The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) engages students in a vibrant campus community through holistic, co-curricular experiences. Toward this aim, the OSI offers a broad menu of leadership and involvement programs and initiatives and serves as a resource to the entire campus community.
The Office of Student Involvement seeks a student-centered, team-oriented individual for the Coordinator of Leadership and Student Organization Development position. The Coordinator is a member of the dynamic and highly collaborative Office of Student Involvement team. This team promotes individual student engagement and registered student organization development at UMKC.


Primary responsibilities for the Coordinator for Leadership and Student Organization Development include:


Student Organization Advising & Outreach
* Serve as the primary campus liaison for all registered student organizations, responding to inquiries and guiding best practices.
* Proactively identify and reach out to students and groups not currently engaged in OSI programs.
* Oversee student organization registration, recognition, policy compliance, and annual review processes.
* Manage OSI office space, resource allocations, and the Resource Room for marketing and promotional needs.


Leadership Development & Training
* Design, implement, and assess a suite of leadership development programs (e.g., workshops and retreats) tailored to emerging and established student leaders, incorporating strategies to draw in first-time and low-involvement students.
* Develop and deliver officer training that covering financial best practices, risk management, conflict resolution, and inclusive group facilitation.
* Supervise and train Student Involvement Consultants and other student staff to co-facilitate leadership programs and engagement outreach.


Program Assessment & Continuous Improvement
* Establish metrics and assessment tools to evaluate the impact of student organization initiatives, leadership workshops, and outreach efforts.
* Compile regular reports on engagement outcomes, program satisfaction and learning gains to inform data-driven enhancements.


Systems & Technology Management
* Lead administration and promotion of RooGroups (CampusGroups) for student organizations.
* Train student leaders, advisors, and staff on platform usage, data reporting, and best practices, emphasizing how to use data to identify and engage under-involved students.


Policy Development & Risk Management
* Review, recommend, and develop policies and procedures that support student organization operations.
* Design and facilitate risk and liability management education and incorporate outreach to new leaders on these topics.


Collaborations & Campus Partnerships
* Facilitate strategic collaborations with campus departments, faculty, and community partners to expand student leadership opportunities and tap into student populations not yet connected to the Office of Student Involvement.
* Advise and support the Student Activity Fee Committee.


Supervision & Team Leadership
* Supervise the Senior Business Support Specialist, providing direction on budgeting, procurement, and office operations.

Shift

Full-time, benefit eligible staff position. Willingness to work occasional hours outside of the traditional business day.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Affairs, or related field (earned prior to start date) with 1-3 years of experience working in a university setting is preferred. (A graduate assistantship held during graduate school will be viewed as 1 year of work experience.) The Office of Student Involvement is seeking a Coordinator to support the growth and development of student organizations at UMKC. Proven experience working with student organizations, supervising and/or advising undergraduate students, strong budget management skills, and utilizing an online campus involvement management system (such as Engage, Campus Groups, Anthology, etc.) is strongly preferred.

Successful candidates will have:
* Knowledge and understanding of best practices in student organizations and student engagement
* Ability to translate student development, leadership theory, and best practices into a transformational learning environment
* Proven ability to make confident decisions in a fast-paced, change-oriented, student- focused environment
* Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, adhere to strict timelines, make quick decisions, and propose and implement effective solutions to roadblocks and problems
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated willingness and commitment to working with students, university faculty/staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds
* Demonstrated ability to supervise student teams and facilitate group development
* Demonstrated programming experience (from inception to planning and implementation to assessment)
* Demonstrated ability to be team-oriented with a commitment to excellence

Anticipated Hiring Range

Annual salary: $52,915.20
