Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of this position is to act as a subject matter expert (SME) in areas of environmental regulatory compliance, specifically, regulatory compliance testing, monitoring, record keeping and reporting. This position manages Clean Water Act (CWA) permitting and compliance including program management of the University Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Phase II NPDES Permit compliance as well the program management of individually permitted facilities. NPDES Permit compliance including audits, inspections, sampling and analyses of storm water runoff, permit renewal and amendments, record keeping and reporting as required. This position manages the University’s reclaimed water use permitting and program compliance for the reuse of highly treated wastewater in irrigation, chilled water, and toilet/urinal flushing. This position manages the investigation and characterization of surface and subsurface contamination of soils and groundwater for legacy waste disposal and subsequent contamination at University sites.

This position acts as a liaison with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Additionally, from time to time this position may be asked to supervise staff and/or consultants on a temporary basis.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Four year degree with a preference for a related major in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or closely related science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require specific certifications or licenses. Specific jobs will require additional minimum training and/or licensing upon selection.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, biological science, environmental science/engineering, occupational safety, industrial technology or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
This position requires physical agility (ie. Stoop, crawl, climb ladders, move/transport heavy equipment, etc), entry into hazardous environments, use of personal protective equipment, and an element of personal risk during emergency responses. The ability to wear a respirator (cartridge air purifying or open-circuit SCBA) is essential.
Annual medical clearance is required for Emergency Response Team.
This position is designated as Severe Weather Essential and Communicable Disease Mandatory – Primary.
Additionally, this position requires occasional night and weekend work assignments as other emergencies occur. University policy gives preference in hiring persons who are professionally credentialed by a relevant credentialing organization.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
University policy gives preference in hiring persons who are professionally credentialed by a relevant credentialing organization. Five to seven years of progressive environmental regulatory compliance experience in the interpretation, application and management of compliance obligations associated with University functions affecting compliance with air, waste, water, ground water quality and/or other programs including EPH One Plan, USTs, Title V, SPCC, TSCA (asbestos, PCBs), FIFRA (pesticides), and EPCRA (Tier II and TRI reporting). Position will have working knowledge of OSHA HAZWOPER regulatory compliance obligations.
