| Position Summary | This Temporary Research Assistant will perform microbiome research in a laboratory setting with the following job duties: * Performs cultivation of archaea and bacteria from both human- and rumen-associated samples. * Performs routine technical laboratory procedures in molecular biology and microbiology that includes but not limited to PCR, flow cytometry, and extractions of DNA, RNA, and protein. * Maintains laboratory notebooks, records, and analyzes experimental data. * Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts. * Assists in operating and maintaining anaerobic chambers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometer, plate readers, spectrophotometers, and other laboratory equipment as needed. * Assists in training users of shared equipment located in the laboratory. * Follows established procedures and properly record results. * Helps with laboratory management. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences | * Laboratory experience. * Experience in anaerobic microbiology research and the Hungate techniques. * Experience in operating anaerobic chambers, flow cytometers, and gas cylinders. * Experience in using Laboratory Information Management Systems. |
