Functions include monitoring and operating public safety radios, phones, computer resources and databases (CAD, RMS, ENS, DCI, etc.), and alarm receiver; dispatching police personnel, activating protocols, fielding phone calls; interfacing with the 911 Center, other components of the criminal justice network, other public safety agencies, and members of the public supporting a safe and secure campus environment.
- Familiarity with the organizational functions of law enforcement agency, in particular the dispatch aspects
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Strong typing skills
- Experience preparing briefing documents, using CAD, and writing memorandums
- Ability to succinctly summarize events and relay to key concepts to others
- Experience querying criminal justice databases
- Experience multi-tasking in a public safety environment
- Ability to read written orders
- Certification as Telecommunicator
- Certification as DCI Operator with re-certification required every two years
