Typical Working Schedule
Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm, annually and required to perform emergency call-in work outside of typical work hours as necessary to respond to urgent issues on campus.
Position Summary
Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
- Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
- Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
- Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
- Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
- Performs asbestos abatement and maintains the required certification.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to read, write and orally communicate in the English language.
2. Visual acuity necessary to read parts books, equipment manuals and construction documents.
3. Analytical skills necessary to diagnose and correct electronic failures in electronic equipment and related systems.
4. Sufficient manual dexterity with one hand to operate hand and power tools, manually complete paperwork such as recording items on work orders and receiving documents and operate computer terminal for EMS.
5. Must have sufficient physical flexibility to walk, kneel, stoop, crawl under equipment and other low spaces in order to perform preventive maintenance tasks.
6. Ability to enter, exit, and perform duties in confined spaces and at heights above 30 feet in order to correct problems and maintain ventilation systems.
7. Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move equipment or components (i.e., motors) weighing a maximum of 50 pounds.
8. Must be physically able to work above your head in order to reach remote equipment installations.
9. Ability to perform duties within varied temperature ranges so as to do necessary outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter.
10. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license which would permit Wisconsin certification in order to drive University work vehicles.
11. Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision.
12. Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction and multiplication, necessary to complete work orders.
13. Ability to complete and pass a post-offer employment test.
14. Ability to become certified for asbestos abatement within 6 months of employment through company supplied training.
14. Candidate may have background or training to include basic construction, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and/or safety training.
