Job location: Flexible work arrangement/remote
Pay rate or range: Starting salary is $12.70/hr.
Job Purpose
The University Press of Colorado (UPC), a nonprofit scholarly book publisher, is looking for an intern to aid the Editorial, Design, and Production (EDP) staff of the press with the editorial tasks involved in producing new projects.
The intern will assist with tasks such as vetting artwork, tagging manuscripts, checking correction entry, filing for CIP data, registering DOIs, proofreading and copyediting of various materials, correspondence with authors and freelancers, and attending meetings both within the department and across the press. Interns will also learn about the university press publishing world and become familiar with the two Chicago citation styles.

Minimum Qualifications
EducationHigh School Diploma/GED

Other requirements: Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year.
Attention to detail and communication skills applicable to all majors/career paths. Additional skills beneficial to communication and journalism and related fields.

- Evaluating author-submitted figures for quality
- Learning the structure of a book and tagging manuscripts for typesetting
- Putting together the materials needed to file for CIP (Cataloging-in-Publication) data with the Library of Congress
- Registering DOIs (digital object identifiers) with CrossRef
- Maintaining and updating the press database
- Reviewing the final manuscript to ensure that correction entry is accurate
- Proofreading and light copyediting of marketing copy, reference lists, covers, and indexes

Minimum Qualifications
