Engineering Manager
Upside Innovations, a SixAxis company, is a premier manufacturer of aluminum ramps, steps, canopies, covered walkways, and custom access products. We have been growing tremendously since our inception in 2009 which has led to our recent relocation to a new, larger site in West Chester, Ohio. The Engineering Manager will lead a team of talented engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products and services. You will be responsible for overseeing the engineering team, driving technical strategy, managing project timelines and ensuring successful efficient execution. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role will be critical in developing and maintaining work plans, setting priorities, setting goals and adhering to commitments and deadlines.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the top-level engineering projects that help drive overall company performance. Examples could be projects like gaining California DSA approval for our products or standardizing engineering detailing to support production needs.
- Be an active leader on the Upside senior management team along with the President and other department heads to help guide future growth of the company.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, ensuring technical and professional growth.
- Oversee project planning, prioritization, and execution, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
- Provide technical direction and design decisions to guide engineering teams through complex challenges.
- Work closely with project management and other cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and ensure alignment of goals.
- Manage resource allocation, balancing team workload and prioritizing projects based on business needs.
- Continuously improve departmental processes, tools, and workflows to optimize efficiency and team productivity.
- Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, providing regular updates on project status and technical challenges.
- Oversee the engineering department budget, including resource allocation and technology investments.
- Develop metrics to track and report departmental performance that are aligned with the overall company strategic plan.
- Oversee requested design changes with standard product lines and maintain related drawling revisions.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, preferably in structural engineering.
- Proven experience (5 years) in engineering management or a similar leadership role.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience with engineering practices.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with product and design teams.
- Solid understanding of 2D & 3D design software, Solid Edge, AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
