General Description

The Admission Advisor at the Urban College of Boston is the first point of contact a student has with the College and sets the tone for their experience. They must be mission-driven and committed to working at a college that serves multilingual and multicultural students. The Admission Advisors works independently and collaboratively with outside organizations and with constituents across the College to support recruitment, enrollment, and new student onboarding.

The Admission Advisor is responsible for providing excellent service and administrative support to prospective students throughout the admissions and enrollment process. This includes responding to inquiries and applicants, processing applications, evaluating transcripts, degree planning, and registration for a student’s first semester. The Admission Advisor acts as a bridge from the enrollment process to the successful transition for students into the campus community.

Hours/Week Category: 37.50 hours/week

Salary Range: $48,000-$55,000

Reports To: Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management

General Responsibilities

  • Work with prospective students from first point of contact through early enrollment;
  • Counsel students on all aspects of the application process and provide general guidance on funding their college education;
  • Process applications for admission, requesting necessary documents and evaluates them for completeness;
  • Work collaboratively with the Registrar’s Office to determine transfer credit eligibility and proper course placement;
  • Provide initial academic advisement to students including discussions of career goals, transfer pathways, degree planning, and first semester course registration;
  • Acts as academic advisor and success coach to English and Spanish speaking students who are gaining English proficiency;
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, reporting of enrollment activities, and coordination of services to support student enrollment;
  • Become familiar with working territory and demographics of the region to best reach and grow the student population for Urban College;
  • Work collaboratively with the enrollment services team members and academic department chairs to identify creative ways to recruit recent high school graduates and adult learners;
  • Lead information sessions and registration events tracking participation and yield;
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Working in collaboration with the AVP of Enrollment Management, identify community partners to engage in recruitment outreach.
  • Coordinate and implement remote and in-person information sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with the admission team, Director of Marketing & Communications, and the AVP of Enrollment Management to develop systems of efficiency.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in Admissions, advising, customer service, or related field
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service abilities
  • High level of cultural dexterity and sensitivity
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstration of a strong understanding of cultural competency & proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
  • Proficiency with the use of the MS Office Suite and Customer Relationship Management programs such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or Slate
  • Ability to manage student privacy, maintain compliant student files, and rosters
  • Goal-oriented and intrinsically motivated individual with superior customer service and strong organizational, interpersonal, technological, and written and oral communication skills
  • This is a hybrid position with at least two days a week on-campus and in the community
  • Valid driver’s license, car, and ability to work and travel evenings and some weekends are required.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Student Information System such as Sonis, Banner, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree

Work Location

This full-time (37.5 hours per week) position is based on the College’s Boston campus (2 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02116) but is currently approved as a hybrid position with an expectation to be available on campus two days a week as well as additional days for student recruitment travel. Additionally, this position requires availability for scheduled in-person and on-campus meetings with students, staff, and/or faculty, monthly college meetings, selected student-centered events, open houses, selected summer workshops or events, and/or partner site visits. Valid driver’s license, car, and ability to work and travel evenings and some weekends are required. This employment model is subject to periodic review by the President.
