Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Safety Intern to support the Safety Department at our corrugated manufacturing facility. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in industrial safety operations, compliance documentation, and workplace hazard identification. The intern will assist with organizing safety documentation, retrieving and analyzing safety data, and participating in plant walk-throughs to observe and report on safety practices and concerns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Organize and maintain safety-related records, including incident reports, SDS files, training logs, and inspection reports.
- Assist in updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility across the facility.
- Support the preparation of safety audits and regulatory documentation (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Data Retrieval & Reporting
- Compile and analyze safety data from inspections, near-miss reports, and incident tracking systems.
- Create visual safety dashboards or reports using Excel or similar tools to help identify trends.
- Help track completion rates for required safety training and certifications.
- Plant Walk-Throughs & Inspections
- Accompany safety staff on regular facility walk-throughs to observe work areas for safety compliance.
- Document observations and assist in preparing follow-up action items for non-compliance.
- Engage with team members on the floor to promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment, including time spent on the production floor.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Work Environment: This position requires regular time spent in a manufacturing setting, including exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
