US Navy Reserve
Gregory, SD Part Time
POSTED ON 8/5/2025 CLOSED ON 9/1/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Navy Physician position at US Navy Reserve?

**Serving Your Country as a Part-Time Physician**

This opportunity allows you to serve your country while maintaining a part-time schedule. You will attend to service members and their families, providing medical care similar to that of a civilian doctor.

As a Navy commissioned physician, you will enjoy an accelerated career track, with opportunities to participate in humanitarian relief efforts both domestically and internationally. You will work at top military medical facilities and have access to advanced training and technology, often ahead of what is available in the civilian world.

The Navy healthcare system provides the ability to focus on medicine without the financial and business complications of private practice. You will not be responsible for start-up costs, malpractice insurance, staffing, equipment, or office management.

Additionally, Navy physicians:

  • Experience excellent compensation in a thriving practice
  • Enjoy manageable patient ratios for high-quality, one-on-one care
  • Receive hands-on experience and Navy-funded advanced training
  • Have a flexible schedule that leaves more time for family and personal pursuits

As a Navy Physician and Officer in the Navy Medical Corps, you will lead the respected Navy healthcare team in providing high-quality medical care to Sailors, Marines, service members, their families, and humanity at large when called upon.

You will handle all typical physician duties, such as diagnosing ailments, treating injuries, and saving lives. You also have the opportunity to move beyond routine by:

  • Working at the best military medical facilities on shore, at sea, and in the field
  • Joining top healthcare professionals on the valued Navy healthcare team
  • Collaborating with fellow military doctors and other healthcare officers, and partnering with International Relief Teams and organizations
  • Operating as a leader within your focus area and gaining exposure outside your specialty
  • Gaining management experience that will serve you well throughout your career

Serving part-time as a Reservist, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Physicians in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes, allowing for flexibility in expanding their medical experience in the Navy without compromising their civilian practice at home. For annual training, physicians may serve anywhere in the world, whether at sea, in hospitals stateside, or in bases and camps in countries around the world.

**Benefits of Serving as a Navy Physician**

  • Repayment of qualified education loans to the lending institution, paid annually over a maximum of 3 years while serving

  • Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
  • No-cost or low-cost medical and dental care for you and your family
