POSITION SUMMARY:
The Intervention Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse assists the Radiologist with procedures performed in Radiology. This includes both Radiology studies/interventions as well as Special Procedure studies/interventions, and they do PICC placement throughout the facility. The patient population contains adults, and geriatric patients. Ionizing Radiation is utilized to perform these studies as well as other imaging modalities. On-Call is required and the employee must be able to respond and arrive in Radiology within 30 minutes. The Registered nurse is responsible for direct patient care during the procedure. ACLS is required.
DUTIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Provides customer service by utilizing communication skills and technical knowledge to ensure ETMC and departmental objectives are maintained.
- Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and environmental status appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit in a systemic and continuous manner, to initiate the nursing process.
- Collaborates with the patient/family/significant other and other members of the health care team to formulate a plan of care that includes the patient needs, interventions, and expected outcomes
- Evaluates patients’ responses to plan of care through assessment of appropriateness and effectiveness of interventions, and modifies, as necessary, to achieve expected outcomes.
- Educates patient/family, significant other (s) by utilizing appropriate teaching methods to meet identified needs.
- Provides nursing care, utilizing clinical knowledge necessary to implement the plan of care according to approved standards and of care and practice.
SUPERVISION:
- May supervise care delivered by other RNs, or ARRTs (radiology techs). May be responsible for orienting new employees and/or students.
Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Completion of Associates Degree, Diploma, or Bachelor/Master of Science in Nursing
Experience:
- One-year critical care or IR experience preferred, but not required.
Certification and Licensure:
- Must have current valid RN license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
- BLS Required
- ACLS Required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull heavy objects, and constantly walk, stand, bend, reach for and/or stoop.
- Ability to perform a full range of body motions including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye/hand coordination.
- Ability to wear lead protective devices for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions, and to work irregular hours (on-call required).
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to ionizing radiation on a frequent basis.
- Potential for cuts, bruises, muscle strains, exposure to airborne pathogens via blood and body fluids, as well as possible exposure to contagious diseases and hazardous materials.
This is an OSHA Category I position. Body substance isolation must be practiced.
