Job Description
Valencia County Literacy Council (VCLC) is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Program Outreach Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA) to help sustain and grow our adult literacy programs. This VISTA member will work in close collaboration with the Program Director to maintain day-to-day program infrastructure while launching and supporting multifaceted outreach, communications, and partnership efforts across the organization.
As part of a small, collaborative team rooted in equity and community empowerment, the Outreach Coordinator will help build systems that connect VCLC’s literacy services to adults across Valencia County—especially in under-resourced and rural communities. They will coordinate with staff, board members, and volunteers to improve visibility, recruit tutors, engage students, and strengthen relationships with community partners, donors, and public institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Program Director to support and refine internal program operations
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to recruit students and volunteer tutors
- Create and manage print, digital, and social media campaigns to promote VCLC’s mission
- Coordinate communication and engagement efforts between staff, board, and community stakeholders
- Assist with developing a donor database, outreach materials, and fundraising campaigns
- Track and evaluate outreach effectiveness and student/tutor engagement data
- Build and maintain partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, and agencies
- Support grant writing, events, and donor cultivation efforts as needed
Ideal Candidate
- Strong communicator, highly organized, and community-oriented
- Interested in education access, literacy, poverty alleviation, or nonprofit work
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across roles
- Skilled in outreach, digital media, or partnership development (preferred but not required)
Position Details
- AmeriCorps VISTA Service Term: 12 months (Full-time, August 2025–August 2026)
- Location: Los Lunas, NM (in-person/hybrid)
- Living Stipend: ~$877/month (pre-tax)
- End-of-Service Award: Education Award (~$6,895) or $1,800 cash
