Job Summary
The Senior Accountant – Modernization is responsible for providing support in modernization of accounting processes to enhance operational efficiency. This role services as a first point of contact for collaboration with multiple accounting teams, Technology teams and the Strategy & Implementation team to assess current state and facilitate improvement and modernization of both processes and systems. This position will also be responsible for assisting in future and current technology system implementations in the business. The Senior Accountant – Modernization is expected to have a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and may be assigned projects outside of normal monthly duties. Communication across all levels is required.

- Work as business lead on accounting modernization projects for tech and non-tech projects
- Collaborate with technology and accounting teams to ensure project solutions and implementations align with modernization effort and are in compliance with GAAP
- Collaborate with accounting teams on projects and processes to ensure increased efficiency
- Communication with Strategy and Implementation team on project status
- Review and research current accounting systems to better understand future state needs
- Create and maintain metrics for accounting modernization projects
- Review current internal and external reporting processes for inefficiencies and recommend changes
- Collaborates with team to recommend accounting enhancements and modernization projects addressing inefficiencies and problem solutions
- Create and maintain touchpoints with accounting leadership and teams to identify opportunity areas
- Presents recommendations for process enhancements and solutions to accounting leadership
- Continuous insight into emerging technologies and current technologies
- Builds data queries for management requests as necessary
- Maintains advanced knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards
- Recommends solutions to questions from business unit leaders
- Provides work product examples for Accountants to follow
- Troubleshoots complex tasks or issues that require a higher level of analysis and judgement.
- Makes recommendations for actions to take in research process
- Builds mutually-beneficial relationships with research partners inside and outside of the Accounting Department
- Understands when to escalate decisions to the proper member of the leadership team
- Participates in development opportunities to continually improve efficiency and accuracy
- Reviews Policies and Procedures (P&P) provided by research partners and works to make updates as necessary
- Provides training on assigned tasks when applicable
- Audits and analyzes team member products to ensure accuracy and compliance, and designs training opportunities to address knowledge deficiencies
- Works with training team to create job aids and other tools necessary to support modernization efforts.

Qualifications
- Education: Four-year degree in Accounting
- Experience: Four-six years’ experience in accounting or related field
- Advanced degree a plus
- CPA a plus
- Advanced knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Experience with Excel, including its formulas and advanced features
- Querying skills, knowledge of Sequel ViewPoint, Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), AS400, Accounting related ERP System a plus
- Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities
- Capable of gathering facts accurately, analyze causes, and evaluate alternate solutions
- Experience working and reviewing reconciliations and discrepancies
- Great attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management
- Demonstrates leadership qualities
- Remains knowledgeable of processes that impact the team
