What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Care Coordinator-Graduate Periodontics position at VCU Dental Care?
Chief Purpose of the Position
The Patient Care Coordinator will be part of VCU Dental Care’s Periodontal Department. The incumbent is largely responsible for the ideal patient experience, collection, schedule management, and appointment coordination. Responsibilities include, but not limited to coordinating appointments and specialties. Collecting payments, and follow up on patient pre- authorizations. Checking schedules proactively and contacting patients prior to appointments regarding co pays associated with upcoming procedures. Manage daily route slips. Employee shall serve as a liaison between providers/managers and patients.

- Excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist patients, students, residents, faculty, and other staff is required
- Experience and working knowledge of dental terminology strongly preferred.
- Superior telephone etiquette skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
- Data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team required.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Ability to maintain multiple objectives simultaneously required.
- Ability to understand and explain patient account financial ledgers required.
- Must be flexible to work schedule for varying shifts.
Education level and experience required:
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- Customer service in Healthcare/Dental Office setting
- College education preferred or equivalent applicable training or experience.
- Experience in a dental/medical field - 2 years experience Required
- Accounts receivable and/or insurance coordination 1 year experience Required
- Computer skills required, preferably with proficiency in Microsoft Windows & Office.
- Experience in dental practice management software, preferably axiUm strongly preferred.
- Computer skills required, with proficiency in Microsoft Windows & Office, especially Word and Excel
- CPR Certification preferred
Hiring Range: commensurate with experience
