Veterinary Assistant

New Light Animal Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant that wants to grow with a full-service hospital. This role will work 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts with a day off during the week. New Light Animal Hospital has a strong value-based team that strives to provide gold-standard care to the patients and clients that we serve. We are located between Wake Forest and Raleigh serving Wake Forest, Creedmoor, Durham, North Raleigh, and surrounding areas.

Hospital Hours

Mon-Fri: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Saturday (every third): 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Closed Sundays

Veterinary Assistant duties:

• Client communication
• Triaging patients including basic injury/illness assessment, gathering patient information and taking vital signs.
• Patient care and treatments
• Performing diagnostic testing including radiographs and lab work

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Arrives prior to hospital opening to prep for surgeries and appointments.

Skills/Abilities

• Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
• Ability to always communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.
• Ability to provide high quality customer service.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
• Ability to work effectively with computers and electronics.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift patients with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push and squat most of the workday.

Education and Experience:

This position requires at least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician. Surgery experience preferred.
