The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) partners with Latino/a/x communities and all communities of color to end gender-based violence.  Created as a grassroots response to intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP has always centered survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities it serves.  VIP operates three community-based social service programs, two residential shelter and housing programs, a bilingual helpline, innovative economic justice, child & adolescent, and sexual violence programs, and a robust community engagement team.

 

The Home Case Manager  will help the Home program which is designed to support non-residential domestic violence programs expand their menu of options to enhance the ability of survivors to stay safer in their homes.  Orders of protection, police reports or other agency or system involvement are not required for clients to be eligible for any of the services in the Home program. Home will serve survivors of domestic violence who are new or existing clients at VIP, as well as through referrals from other agencies and organizations, including, but not limited to, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) NYC Family Justice Centers and community-based organizations

 

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct initial needs assessments on all clients and their children to identify needs and goals during the initial intake and reevaluate as necessary
  • Provide intensive case management services based on the program participant (s) needs/goals and service plan, including weekly (scheduled) case management sessions
  • Coordinate referral processes and forms to identify clients who need Home services, and deliver or coordinate Home services with Home coordinator.
  • Conduct follow up of Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) installations
  • Conduct follow up of Home safety repairs (e.g. window, lock, door changes or repairs)
  • Coordinate Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) installations

  • Provide referrals to supportive services
  • Keep timely documentation of all Response Alert security system alarm activations for the growing Home clientele
  • Serve as a liaison between the client and the City-contracted PERS vendor(s) and home safety repair vendor(s) to coordinate services for the client and troubleshoot, as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with ENDGBV, support the delivery of trainings at least twice per year, to the City-contracted PERS vendor(s) and home safety repair vendor(s) on domestic violence related topics, including but not limited to, Domestic Violence 101 and trauma-informed practices.
  • Conduct a minimum of 12 total diverse outreach efforts per year within VIP, across VIP partner networks, and/or with the NYC Family Justice Centers to enhance awareness of Home and increase referrals.
  • Collect data, as agreed upon with HRA and ENDGBV, and provide it on a monthly basis to HRA and ENDGBV.
  • Collaborate with City-identified researchers to collect and share data in a timely fashion for evaluation purposes.
  • Maintain proper documentation (case notes, reports and statistical information) in a timely manner for all clients.
  • Consistently assess the safety of clients to ensure their security, and that of their children; and create safety plans as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and other service providers on a consistent basis to ensure the highest quality service delivery.
  • Adhere to mandated reporting requirements as they relate to such issues as child abuse/neglect, suicide/homicide concerns, etc. 
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled agency and program meeting including supervision sessions, trainings, case conferences, agency-wide staff meetings, team meetings, inter-disciplinary meetings, etc.
  • Conduct community outreach and /or educational workshops as needed by program.
  • Represent VIP at conferences, community meetings and special events; including Promoting VIP services at all public functions.
  • Report Language access issues as they occur to Associate Director of Community Programs.
  • Perform other tasks as required, including any related administrative duties as needed.  


Requirements:

  • BSW, BA or equivalent relevant experience in the field of human services
  • Fully Bilingual Required (English/Spanish – verbal and written).
  • Must have advocacy and/or counseling experience in the area of domestic violence, women and children’s issues, or related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and documenting skills.
  • Must be well-organized, work independently and collectively, while maintaining a flexible schedule.
  • Must be knowledgeable in working with diverse communities, particularly Latinx, people of color, and low-income populations and deliver culturally competent services.
  • Must have the ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machine, fax machine, phone systems, etc. with strong internet and software skills; incl. Microsoft Office and client database.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment, compassion, and sensitivity at all times to provide trauma-informed care.
  • Must ensure agency, program and client confidentiality at all times.
  • Must work well with a team and bring self-awareness and accountability to the workplace.
  • Must be passionate about intersectional social justice issues impacting survivors of trauma.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Full-time, non-exempt position, working 35 hours per week with a pay rate of $50,000/year.
