Opportunity:
We are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join our esteemed partner's senior leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to provide clinical direction and leadership within an organization deeply committed to community health.
The CMO role offers a balanced schedule:

The Chief Medical Officer will play a pivotal role in collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership to uphold the organization's mission, vision, and values, ensuring effective health center operations, and executing strategic plans. This leader will directly oversee patient access, patient care, clinician well-being, and clinician engagement, acting as a crucial advocate for both clinicians and patients.
The successful candidate will bring a strong clinical perspective to support the delivery of patient-centered, cost-effective care, with a clear focus on improving healthcare access and outcomes. Working collaboratively with management, the CMO will drive efficiency and productivity among clinicians and care teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role requires communicating the clinical vision and strategy across all levels of the organization and to external stakeholders, ensuring robust clinical controls, advocating for compliance, quality, and safety, and balancing clinician advocacy with administrative collaboration to achieve both clinical excellence and organizational success, all while promoting financially sustainable clinical operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct patient care as a physician in your medical specialty, serving as a role model.

Translate the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategy into actionable clinical and operational initiatives.

Serve as the principal clinical spokesperson for the organization.

Lead and manage all clinical leaders, including Clinical Directors and Clinical Site Leads, supporting a dyad model with operational leadership to achieve clinical and operational goals.

Develop the clinical leadership pipeline through mentorship, coaching, and succession planning.

Partner with operational leadership to implement plans, communicate with staff, and provide clinical input and oversight.

Collaborate with clinical leadership and clinicians to establish performance and productivity goals, and implement strategies to achieve them while maintaining high quality.

Lead the clinical quality program, including understanding, prioritizing, and communicating quality metrics, and spearheading improvement efforts to achieve and sustain above-average health outcomes.

Assist in investigating clinical events, leading or participating in root cause analyses as needed.

Lead efforts to develop clinical quality and safety targets and facilitate discussions to create innovative and pragmatic patient care models.

Make recommendations on clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, medical office equipment, and protocols.

Lead integration across medical, behavioral health, and dental programs for seamless, whole-person care.

Ensure clinicians receive appropriate training in optimizing quality and coding, including performance monitoring and feedback.

Conduct performance reviews for direct reports, assessing adherence to mission/values, job skills, productivity, and professional growth.

Oversee the peer review process to ensure regulatory compliance and clinical meaningfulness.

Provide leadership and advocacy for the maintenance and utilization of a dependable and customer-oriented EHR system (Athena preferred).

Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical activities and in the hiring and management of clinical staff.

Conduct regular meetings with clinicians, engaging one-on-one for improvement opportunities.

Utilize clinical and operational data to identify trends, enhance performance, and inform strategic decisions.

Provide clinical leadership for ACO and other value-based care activities, including participation in relevant committees.

Collaborate with community partners and internal teams to address social determinants of health, advance population health goals, and reduce health disparities.

Attend monthly Board meetings, providing reports on clinical matters.
-
Establish positive relationships with the area medical community and community referral entities.
-
Assist with the development and adherence to credentialing policies and procedures.

Collaborate with Human Resources in clinician recruitment and onboarding.

Attend professional development seminars, training sessions, and in-services.
-
Travel to sites as necessary and be willing to work evening hours and weekends when required.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the CEO.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
-
Medical degree from an accredited M.D. or D.O. program.

Five (5) years or more as a practicing physician.

Must have or be able to obtain a Massachusetts medical license.

Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience with clinicians and staff in a healthcare delivery organization, preferably in a community health setting (five (5) or more years is preferred).

Experience with an electronic health records system; Athena preferred.

Proven track record of meeting clinical goals.

High level of business acumen and understanding of budgets, financial statements, productivity, and strategic planning.

Demonstrated strong leadership skills with clinicians and non-clinicians.

Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a positive and proactive customer service attitude.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: $230,000 - $275,000 / year
