Under general supervision, performs professional public health nursing services for the community, individuals and families; provides clinic and home services, patient education, support and community service referrals; and performs related work as required
This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill current full-time vacancies in the Washoe County Health District. Please be advised certain positions are partially grant funded. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
This position is in a flexibly staffed class series. The hiring department has the discretion to hire at any level within the class series for which the applicant may be qualified. A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND two years of public health nursing experience.
License Or Certificate
- A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment.
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
- Must obtain Office Lab Assistance Certificate within 3 months of appointment, depending on area of assignment
- May be required to achieve and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certifications, depending on area of assignment.
The Ideal Candidate
- Will have experience in Immunizations.
- Will have experience with client care in clinic, home, and community settings.
- Will have the capacity to prioritize and effectively manage time.
- Will have effective communication skills.
- Will be bilingual (oral and written).
The Washoe County Nurses Association (WCNA) Non-Supervisory covers the Public Health Nurse II position.
Selected candidates may be required to meet the Health District immunization requirements and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by an authorized provider at the time of appointment. Certain positions will also require selected candidates to have the 2–step TB Skin Test at time of appointment.
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective July 1, 2019, the $40.25 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
