A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Tantama Lab at Wellesley College to develop genetically-encoded optical tools to study purinergic signaling. Projects include protein engineering and cellular neurobiology. Primary duties include the design, execution, and analysis of experiments under the supervision of Professor Tantama. Additional duties may include mentoring students and general responsibilities to maintain a safe, organized, and ethical working environment. A Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree is required. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: molecular biology, protein biochemistry, live-cell fluorescence microscopy, rodent brain slice physiology; however, we encourage all qualified individuals to apply. Primary Position Responsibilities
- Design, execution, & analysis of experiments in the protein engineering of genetically-encoded optical tools including but not limited to molecular biology, protein biochemistry, spectroscopy, microfluidics
- Design, execution, & analysis of experiments in the cellular neurobiology of purinergic signaling including but not limited to cell culture, rodent work, brain slice physiology, live-cell microscopy
- Accurate and organized physical and electronic record keeping for all data, analyses, reports, etc.
- Scientific communication of results in both written and oral forms for both internal progress reports and external publications and presentations
- Assist training research technicians and students
- General lab administration and management to maintain an organized and professional work environment
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent advanced graduate degree
Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in any of the following is highly desirable but not strictly required: molecular biology, protein biochemistry, live-cell fluorescence microscopy, rodent brain slice physiology
- Safe laboratory practices in chemical and biological research settings is required
- Attention to detail and organized record keeping is required
- General organization is required
- Oral and written communication is require
- Interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment is required

- This position will support the research program in the Tantama Lab, and as such it will also indirectly support the participation of Wellesley undergraduates in a productive research environment.
