What are the responsibilities and job description for the Golf Maintenance Second Assistant/Foreman position at Wente Family Estates?
Position Summary: The 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Golf Course at Wente Vineyards and supervision of the golf course and ground’s maintenance staff.
Successful Candidates Will Possess:
- A minimum of 2 years golf course experience
- 2-4-year degree or certification in turfgrass management or related field.
- Valid California QAL/QAC or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
- Irrigation experience (troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering)
- Experience safely applying and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications
- Ability to operate equipment associated with golf course maintenance
- Project management experience
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively motivate a team
- Organizational skills
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Applicant must be fast paced and ready to adapt to situations that arise
- Applicant should show passion for the industry with a mindset of someday becoming a superintendent
- Bilingual, or show promise to learning Spanish to better communicate with crew
Essential Duties:
- Supervision and quality control
- Monitoring fertility / scouting for problems
- Scheduling of staff
- Fertilizer and Pesticide applications, including; calculations, calibration of equipment, applying, and record keeping
- Ability to operate a wide range of equipment (tractors, mowers, spray equipment, rollers, and small equipment)
- Irrigation management (spot watering, scheduling, repairs, trouble-shooting, and project coordination)
- Provide daily communication with the clubhouse staff concerning the course
Requires the ability to sit. stand and walk for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
