JOB SUMMARY

To operate and maintain control of a 6 or 8 passenger golf cart shuttle throughout the campus parking facility and actively pursue patients/guests who need a ride to a designated location.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome and greet all guests/patients on the campus parking lots.
  • Observe all street signs and utilize turn signals while the shuttle is in operation.
  • Inquire if the guests need a ride to a location.
  • Pick up and deliver guests/patients to and from the MCC parking areas.
  • Observe guests/patients who are entering and exiting the golf cart shuttle and offer assistance if needed.
  • Assist guests/patients with lifting and/or carrying equipment on and off the shuttle if needed.
  • Offer assistance to anyone who may need help including assisting guests/patients with minor car trouble.
  • Be proactive with answering questions and providing directions.
  • Continuously monitor surroundings in order to respond to work load changes.
  • Assertively respond to guests/patients or employees in order to get to destinations quickly.
  • Maintain two-way radio contact with base station.
  • Respond to emergency codes, trauma, or disaster situations according to established policies and procedures.
  • Follow MCC’s Vehicle Fleet Safety Policy, which covers safety, responsibilities and expectations, and equipment inspections, for drivers of any MCC owned or leased vehicle.  If any equipment on the vehicle is not working correctly, will immediately notify the Guest Services Coordinator of any issues found.  If a vehicle is potentially unsafe to drive, for any reason, will immediately remove the vehicle from service and notify the Guest Services Coordinator.
  • Not permitted to listen to music, radio, audio books, or any other type of audio-entertainment, or watch any type of visual-entertainment, via any type of device while on-the-clock. 
  • Use of cell phones, for any purpose, and of two-way radios while driving is prohibited.  As patient shuttle drivers are expected to answer communication devices as soon as safety will permit, those drivers will move out of the path of traffic before responding to a call. 
  • In addition to using good judgment, will abide by the following, in order to seek to make entry onto and exit from patient shuttles as safe as possible:
  • Will ensure the shuttle is stationary when passengers are entering and exiting the shuttle.  Will place foot on the brake and then engage the parking brake before advising passengers it is safe to enter or exit the shuttle.
  • Will make an auditory announcement when it is safe for passengers to enter or exit the shuttle, as well as make a second auditory announcement that the shuttle is about to move, prior to releasing the parking brake.  Additional announcement options, such as a whistle or bell, may be implemented at the discretion of the Guest Services Department management team, with any additional announcements being unilaterally required for use by all Guest Services shuttle drivers.
  • Will ensure, by personal observation, that all passengers are completely seated and/or have completely exited the shuttle before releasing the parking brake.   Passengers should not be touching the exterior of the shuttle or any rain covering on the shuttle when movement of the shuttle begins.
  • If a passenger requires assistance entering or exiting the shuttle, will exit the shuttle and provide the required assistance. 
  • If a shuttle has any rear-facing seats, no-one is permitted to sit in those seats.
  • Patient golf cart shuttles not in use for an extended period of time, such as overnight, will be driven into the patient golf cart shuttle garage.  The rolling garage door will be locked and checked, and the side entry door will be closed firmly and ensured locked. 
  • Perform daily vehicle maintenance logs and safety checks.
  • Perform and document routine maintenance of the shuttle to include changing tires if needed.
  • Complete all paperwork and logs in an organized and thorough fashion.
  • Cross train and assist with other positions within the Guest Services department as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum education requirement is high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, and be insurable according to our automotive insurance company’s criteria, to operate all MCC vehicles including rented equipment.

  • Displays ability of giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Post-offer hearing and vision checks, conducted by MCC, must demonstrate ability to successfully operate the shuttle cart and other MCC vehicles.
  • Ability to lift, move, support, push and pull up to 25 pounds on a routine basis and up to 80lbs on occasion.
  • Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
  • Ability to work in various positions including sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing when necessary.
  • Ability to stand and walk on a constant basis throughout the day.
  • Must be able to operate telephone, wheelchair, stretcher, dolly, all types of MCC vehicles, and two-way communications devices.
  • Ability to navigate the entire medical campus utilizing stairwells, elevators, and golf cart shuttles.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional regardless of workload or time constraints.  
  • Must be able to work under stress and remain calm and professional.   

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Able to work in any type weather condition (extreme heat or cold, rain and wind).
  • Exposed to frequent and constant interruptions in daily functions/schedule. 
  • Must be available to customers and staff throughout the day. 
  • Required to work extended hours to meet department needs.
