Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the psychotherapeutic treatment and case management of patients who range in age from childhood to geriatrics. Subspecialty in particular age group, diagnosis, and treatment modality. Provides individual, family, or group psychotherapy as assigned. Primary population served are underserved, underinsured and persons who may experience homelessness with or without chronic disease, i.e., cardiac, arthritis, diabetes, HIV, Cancer. AODA.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide intakes and mental health assessments. Current in crisis intervention.
  • Conduct psychosocial history, which includes provisional DSM-V and ICD-11 diagnosis, treatment plan, and recommended therapies.
  • Provide treatment services, to include individual, family, couple, and group counseling.
  • Participate in WestCare Wisconsin, Inc education and health programs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and inter-.services client staffing as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education for certification/ license and career upgrade.
  • Participate in community level research with the intent of improving the practice knowledge base, related to mental health services and issues related to the Milwaukee community.
  • Complies with WestCare Wisconsin, Inc policies and procedures. Adheres to all related standards of practice/ethics in alignment with Masters or PhD prepared provider.
  • Complete all ongoing record keeping per Wisconsin Administrative Code and clinic requirements.
  • Perform other job related duties, as may be assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

Certifications/Licensures:

  • Obtained license through the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required.

Education:

  • Completion of BA Psychology, Social Work and a in MS Counseling, degree through an accredited program meeting requirement for Wisconsin Certification.

Experience and Competencies:

  • Experience in provision of an eclectic problem-solving approach to clients seeking short-term interventions and problem resolution.
  • Familiarity with a range of issues such as poverty, community, family violence, HIV, human sexuality, AODA, criminal justice systems, chronic or terminal illness and pain, parenting skills, are desirable.
  • Experience with current EMR a plus.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services to a variety of clients in a direct responsive manner.
  • Willingness to confront traditional barriers in respect of various servicing patients with various mental health diagnosis.
  • Strong interactive "team" skills within a primary medical care setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy toward patients.
  • Able to develop teaching and counseling sessions, as needed.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing situations and circumstances.
  • Must be willing and able to assume and delegate patient needs, as a member of the health care team.

Working Conditions:

  • performed in office and in field;
  • Some outdoor activities and travel between multiple locations may be required;
  • Regular and prompt attendance is required throughout employment.

Essential Physical and Mental Demands of the Job

The employee must be able to perform the following essential duties and activities with or without accommodation:

Physical Demands:

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files).
  • Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through the use of approved physical de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to navigate stairs;
  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.

Mental Demands:

  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
  • Requires the ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings.
  • Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in mentally/verbally abusive situations through the use of approved mental/verbal de-escalation techniques.
