Load Planner

Big Picture: A Load Planner’s role is to structure freight movement to maximize equipment and company or contracted driver HOS utilization while maintaining on-time freight handling through effective planning, and balancing goals of Safety, Production, positive driver interface and excellent Customer Service. An effective Load Planner is integral to effective freight movement management by organizing freight availability so that trucks move seamlessly from pick-ups through deliveries, without extended wait times or long dead-head transits. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, as needed: 

• Responsible for planning all freight originating in or dropped in assigned planning area
• Responsible for observing and providing for adequate freight in the system through working closely with Customer Service and efficient, timely preplanning of loads.
• Must communicate efficiently and professionally with Fleet Managers and Customer Service Representatives
• Must provide prompt notification of issues which may reasonably be a barrier to effective truck management to Customer Service Representative 
• Responsible for all equipment in their area including abandoned trucks, inactive trailers and customer specific trailer pool management 
• Maintain compliance with applicable company policies and procedureS

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

• Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations applicable to driver HOS requirements and freight handling (paperwork).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent critical thinking and decision making skills, and to seek and provide creative problem solving, and conflict resolution options.
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and company policies.

• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
• 1-2 years of transportation experience preferred

• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, and company policy, as applicable.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone, and in person, sometimes in high energy/highly charged emotional situations.
