Major Duties
Position Summary:

Report and produce public radio news spots, features, investigative reporting and specials of regional and occasionally national importance. Provide supervisory support for WMUK news interns on feature news reporting and other projects. Provide backup editing and news compiling when regular producers are unavailable. Occasionally fill in for live hosts on news magazines and pledge drive breaks.

Major Duties:

  • Report local news content at desk and in the field, including newscast spots, NPR-style feature stories, special series and recorded interviews aired during weekly programming on WMUK for Station's on-air and online platforms, including wmuk.org and associated social media channels
  • Report news for state network and national programming as appropriate; participate in newsroom editorial and planning meetings; participate in group editing sessions; collaborate with other reporters as needed, provide editing for broadcast and digital stories as assigned. Additionally, collaborate with other news organizations (local, regional or national) on investigative series where appropriate.
  • Develop creative and original story pitch ideas of a compelling nature for WMUK's audiences, including but not limited to general assignment reporting, newscasts, long-form feature reporting, multi-part series and monthly special features, meeting WMUK's journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and balance. Actively incorporates diverse perspectives and voices into the editorial process.
  • Participate in meetings; attend trainings and conferences; participate in fall and spring pledge drives; table for events; fill in for live hosts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, in related field from an accredited institution.

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel.

Desired Qualifications
- Successful previous public radio reporting and audio digital editing experience is highly desirable.

  • Capacity to understand issues relevant to the region.
  • Experience creating sound-rich, meaningful features for a public radio station.
  • Experience editing audio files with then-current version of Adobe Audition.
